
Hot Potatoes are software that allows you to make
interactive web games and puzzles for students.
Types of applications
that can be created with this software include, but are not limited to:

1. Creating J-Quiz:
J-Quiz is self-graded quiz. There are four
types of J-Quiz. Multiple choice, multiple select, hybird, and short answer.
This is tutorial to create J-Quiz.
1. Click on
the Potato labeled J-Quiz. A
dialog box will be displayed asking whether Beginner or Advanced mode is
desired.
2. Click “yes” to
start in Beginner mode. The following screen will be displayed
3. In the Title box, type
in the name of the quiz. This function allows you to give the quiz a
name.
4. To select the quiz type, use the
drop-down menu immediately to the right of the Q(n) box.
5. Select Multiple-choice in the
drop-down menu on the right.
6. Begin creating the questions, answers, and
feedback.
a. Type the
question in the Q(n) box (where "n" is the question number
for example Q1).
b. Type the
acceptable answers (multiple choice) in the A, B, C,
and D boxes under the Answers column.
c. If you
wish to leave feedback, type the desired feedback for each answer in the boxes
in the Feedback column.
d. Check the box
next to the multiple choice option that is correct under
the Settings column.
7. Save the file if you finished
write the quiz.
8. See your file by click the
network box on the top and under the manager item. Choose view the exercise in
my browser to see and choose upload for uploading
- Changing Quiz Types:
Quiz types are
available in
the right of the Q1 box. There
are four types of J-Quiz, Multiple Choice, Multi select, Hybird, and Short
Answer.

J-Cloze is fill in the gap
exercise. This is tutorial to create the excercise.
1. Click
on the Potato labeled J-Cloze. The following screen will be displayed
2. In
the Title box, writethe theme of the
quiz. This function allows you to give the quiz a name.
3. In the box under the table,
write the quiz.
4. Drag the word that you want to
lose and then click drag box. You can add the clue of the lose word in the
display box.
5. Save the file if you finished
write the quiz.
6. See your file by click the
network box on the top and under the manager item. Choose view the exercise in
my browser to see and choose upload for uploading.
This is the example of J-Cloze. The
theme is about asking and giving opinion for senior high school. There are
conversation of two person and you can try to fill the blank.
3. Creating J-Match Quiz
J-Match is drag and down matching
exercise. This is tutorial to create J-Match quiz
2. In the tittle box, write your
theme of quiz
3. There are two box under the
tittle, Left and right items. You can
put the picture in the left or the right by click insert - picture.
4. After put the picture in the
left, you can write the tittle of the picture in disordered in the right and
conversely.
5. Save the file if you finished
write the quiz.
6. See your file by click the
network box on the top and under the manager item. Choose view the exercise in
my browser to see and choose upload for uploading
This is the example of J-Match
about short fungtional text for senior high school. There are four picture and
the name of the picture in disordered.
4. Creating J-Cross quiz
J-Cross is crossword pazzle quiz.
This is tutorial to create crossword pazzle by J-Cross
1. Click on
the Potato labeled J-Match. The following screen will
be displayed
2. In the
tittle box, you write the theme of your exercise.
3. Write the
word in the box beside the tittle. You can write to left or right. You must
connect one word with others.
4. Click add
clues box to give clue in each word.
5. Save the file if you finished
write the quiz.
6. See your file by click the
network box on the top and under the manager item. Choose view the exercise in
my browser to see and choose upload for uploading
This is the
example of J-Cross quiz. The theme is about short fungtional text for senior
high school. There are six word and and also the clue to make students easier
to guess.
5. Creating
J-Mix quiz
J-Mix is put
the word in order. This is tutorial to creat J-Mix quiz.
1. Click on
the Potato labeled J-Match. The following screen will
be displayed
2. In the tittle
box, you write your tittle of your exercise.
3. In the main
sentences box, you write your sentence in order.
4. In the
alternative sentence, you write your alternative answer in order. You may fill
this box and you also may not fill this box.
5. Save the file if you finished
write the quiz.
6. See your file by click the
network box on the top and under the manager item. Choose view the exercise in
my browser to see and choose upload for uploading.
This is the example of J-Mix about
asking and giving opinion for students in senior high school. There is a
sentence about giving opinion.
6. Creating J-Masher
J-Masher is the place for collect
your j-cloze, j-cross, j-match, j-quiz, and j-mix. This is tutorial to create
J-Masher
1. Click on
the Potato labeled J-Masher. The following screen will
be displayed
2. Click add file to add your file
that you want to collect in one.
3. Click index box beside source to
give the tittle of quiz collection.
4. Click build unit to build your
file and you will see the tittle of different quiz.
5. If you click one tittle, you
will see your file.

You can set your appearance as you
like. This is the step to change it.
1.Click “option” bottom in the top
2. Choose “configure output”, you
will see many bottom to setting your quiz.
3. If you want to change the size
of word and backgroud, you can setting the appearane. If you want to give
timer, you can setting the timer, etc.
